Brazil election: Real strengthens as TSE restricts disinformation

As Brazil approaches the second round of presidential elections, the Brazilian real has shown strength against the US dollar. On Monday, the commercial dollar fell 0.35% to R$ 5.0548, with the real performing well among major liquid currencies.

Simultaneously, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has issued rulings regarding election disinformation. The court's general corregidor, Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva, prohibited federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira and influencer Pablo Marçal from republishing content previously deemed false by the court. This includes distorted clips regarding President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's speeches.

The TSE also ordered Meta and X to prevent paid promotion of content on the accounts of Ferreira and Marçal until the end of the second round on October 25. While the court denied a request to suspend monetization for these accounts, it required the platforms to provide clarifications regarding algorithmic recommendations and ranking adjustments for these profiles.
