President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed Law No. 15.479 on 29 July 2026, creating the “Pix Pensão” system that automates the monthly transfer of child‑support payments. The law amends the Brazilian Civil Procedure Code and allows courts to order that the payer’s bank automatically debit the amount from the debtor’s account and credit it to the beneficiary’s account. The mechanism cannot be cancelled or altered without a new judicial decision. It becomes effective in July 2027, one year after its publication in the Official Gazette.

The legislation, proposed by Deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB‑SP) and relayed in the Senate by Senator Ana Paula Lobato (PSB‑MA), also requires banks to notify the financial‑system supervisor if the payer’s account lacks sufficient funds, permitting the authority to freeze assets up to the debt amount. The National Council of Justice must publish anonymized statistics on child‑support cases. The law aims to reduce arrears, increase payment predictability and apply to all workers, including informal and self‑employed individuals.
