Brazil's 2026 Basic Education Census deadline passes Friday
The first stage of Brazil's 2026 Basic Education Census closes on Friday, 31 July. Schools must submit data on enrolments, classes, staff and infrastructure through the online Educacenso system. Responsibility for entering and exporting the information lies with each school’s director or designated official.
The census is coordinated by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) within the Ministry of Education. After the deadline, municipal, state and Federal‑District managers export the preliminary data to the Ministry for publication in the Official Gazette, as set out in Ordinance No 217/2026. The system will then reopen for 30 days so managers can verify, ratify and correct entries.
Final, certified data are to be sent to the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE) by 11 December for calculation of Fundeb distribution coefficients. Results of the first stage and statistical summaries will be released on 1 February 2027, and the second stage – focusing on student performance and mobility – begins on the same day.
