Brazil Ministry of Finance reviews Move Brasil credit program

Brazil's Ministry of Finance is evaluating changes to the Move Brasil program to increase participation among private banks. The program, which provides low-interest credit for app drivers and taxi workers to purchase vehicles up to R$ 150,000, has seen higher engagement from public institutions like Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal than from private lenders.

Finance Minister Dario Durigan noted that the government is considering technical adjustments, such as integrating with digital platforms to better assess worker income, to encourage private sector involvement. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has called for a review of recent economic programs to address these challenges.

Separately, the government is pushing to advance a provisional measure (MP) aimed at eliminating the 'blusinhas' tax on small international purchases. President Lula has urged congressional leaders to prioritize the approval of this measure, which he argues is a matter of social justice for lower-income citizens.
