Brazil exceeds 90% internet usage as connectivity reaches 9,000 public schools

More than 90% of Brazilians aged 10 or older used the internet in 2025, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), marking the first time the country crossed this threshold. The surge reflects federal investments in telecommunications infrastructure, the rollout of 5G to 1,521 municipalities covering about 76% of the population, and programs such as Norte Conectado, Wi‑Fi Brasil and Brasil Digital.

The Aprender Conectado project installed high‑speed internet and internal Wi‑Fi in 9,000 public schools between January and June 2026, reaching 1.1 million students across 1,789 municipalities. The initiative also provides solar power for schools without reliable electricity, enabling continuous digital learning. Officials cite improved classroom multimedia use, broader access for remote and Indigenous communities, and alignment with the National Schools Connected Strategy as key outcomes of the expanded connectivity.
