Brazil expands credit relief and housing programmes targeting millions

The federal government announced an expanded phase of the Desenrola credit‑renegotiation scheme, now aimed at up to 10 million Brazilians. In addition to indebted borrowers, the program will include people who are current on their payments, such as active Fies students, borrowers with personal, payroll or mortgage loans, and consumers with a positive credit history. The goal is to reward timely repayment, lower medium‑term credit costs and stimulate planned consumption while maintaining financial system stability.

At the same time, a new cycle of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida housing initiative was unveiled, focusing on both urban and rural needs. The plan foresees the construction of 21,282 new urban housing units using 91 federal properties, including six INSS assets, to serve more than 10,000 families directly. Additional properties will be mobilised for the Entidades and Rural modalities, benefitting thousands of low‑income households and agrarian‑reform settlers. The programme also recovers billions of reais previously idle in the Caixa Econômica Federal, channeling them into credit for families in settlement areas.
