Brazil expands daily BCG vaccination at clinics and hospitals

On July 2, 2026 the Nova Iguaçu municipal health department added the Policlínica do Shopping Nova Iguaçu to the city's permanent BCG vaccination network, offering the vaccine Monday‑Friday, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. This brings the total of municipal sites providing the Bacillus Calmette‑Guérin (BCG) shot to six, improving access for newborns and children under five.

In Brasília, the Hospital Universitário de Brasília (HUB‑UnB) also highlighted the BCG Vaccine Day, providing free BCG shots to newborns, children up to four years, and contacts of leprosy patients. Vaccinations are administered on Friday mornings in the hospital's child‑health unit without appointment, requiring only a CPF document and vaccination card. Both locations stress the vaccine’s role in preventing severe tuberculosis in early childhood.
