Brazil expands digital access to identity and work documents

Brazilian citizens can access various official documents digitally through the Gov.br platform, including the National Identity Card (RG) and the Digital Work Permit (Carteira de Trabalho Digital).

To obtain the digital RG, users must possess the physical version issued after March 6, 2023. The process involves installing the Gov.br app, logging in with a CPF, and scanning the QR code on the physical document's back for facial validation. The digital version holds the same legal validity as the printed one. Validity periods for the digital RG are set at 5 years for children under 12, 10 years for those aged 12 to 60, and indefinite for citizens aged 60 or older.

The Digital Work Permit allows workers to consult professional data, such as contracts and remuneration, via the federal government website. This digital transition aims to reduce bureaucracy and increase security, as the system is password-protected and allows for quick access to professional history without visiting physical agencies.
