Brazil expands digital ID rollout with Campo Grande drive

The Brazilian government is urging citizens to use the digital version of the National Identity Card (CIN) available through the GOV.BR app. Up to 55.8 million people have already received the printed CIN, and the digital copy can store additional documents such as the voter registration, driver’s licence, work card and social identification numbers. Officials warned users to ignore any messages outside the GOV.BR platform that request personal data or payments.

In Campo Grande, a two‑day drive on 26‑27 June offered 500 free, walk‑in appointments for new CIN applications. The event, held at the Pátio O Shopping do Centro, required only a CPF and original birth or marriage certificate. The first issuance is free, and the older RG remains valid until 2032. The mutirão is part of a statewide effort that has already issued more than 819 000 identity cards, covering about 29 % of Mato Grosso do Sul’s population.
