Brazil rolls out digital National Identity Card on GOV.BR app

The Brazilian government has made the digital version of the National Identity Card (CIN) available nationwide through the GOV.BR mobile app. Up to 12 June, 55.8 million citizens had already received the printed CIN, and they can now download the digital copy in the app’s “document wallet” section. The digital CIN uses the CPF number as the unique identifier, replacing the old RG, and can also store other documents such as voter title, driver’s licence, work‑permit, military certificate, NIS/NIT and programme numbers (PIS, Pasep).

The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) is encouraging use by sending notifications via WhatsApp and the GOV.BR mailbox. Secretary Rogério Mascarenhas said the card on a phone “facilitates travel, entry to shows or events and any situation where identification is required.” The ministry warned users to ignore any request for personal data or payments sent outside the official GOV.BR platform, reminding that no such information is ever requested via WhatsApp.

Users can also obtain assistance through the GOV.BR online accounts portal or at physical Balcão GOV.BR service points.
