Brazil expands mobile health units and ambulances to dozens of municipalities

The federal government’s “Agora Tem Especialistas” program has delivered 50 mobile health units—including ambulances, micro‑buses and dental clinics—to 37 municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The rollout targets cities such as Piraí, Barra do Piraí, Niterói, and many others, aiming to improve rapid access to primary‑care services, emergency transport and oral health in remote areas.

Separate initiatives are adding mobile health services in other regions: a new health unit arrived in Mauá to reduce queues for exams and consultations; OdontoSesc opened a mobile dental unit in Cabeceiras do Piauí; and the Programa Mais Especialistas placed a mobile unit in Ribamar. In the north of Minas Gerais, five municipalities received advanced SAMU ambulances equipped as mobile ICUs, while two specially equipped ambulances have begun operating on the MT‑020 and MT‑326 highways in Mato Grosso to enhance roadside emergency response.

Overall, the deployments represent a coordinated effort to broaden health‑care coverage, shorten waiting times and strengthen emergency response across Brazil’s interior and peripheral regions.
