Brazil expands EV charging network in Santa Catarina, Porto Alegre

In southern Santa Catarina, the electric utility Celesc is adding new fast and semi‑fast charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles across municipalities such as Criciúma, Tubarão, Jaguaruna, Lauro Müller, Garopaba and Imbituba. The network places stations roughly every 50 km, supporting tourism and local commerce, and plans further installations in Criciúma and Praia Grande.

Meanwhile, the Porto Alegre municipal government, through its Innovation Office and the Living Lab POA programme, is expanding public‑street charging from three to seven sites. Four new stations will be installed on Avenida Siqueira Campos, Rua Frederico Mentz, Rua Irmão José Otão and Rua Siomma Breitmann. The pilot, operating since May, has already delivered about 25 MWh of electricity, recorded over 1,250 recharges by 546 users, and incurs no cost to the city because partners handle installation and operation.
