Brazil expands free school cinema screenings nationwide
More than 100 free screenings of the documentary‑drama Mundurukuyü — A Floresta das Mulheres Peixe will be shown in cinemas across Brazil in August 2026. The screenings are part of the “Sua Aula no Cinema – Edição Especial” programme of Curta Educação, which has recruited hundreds of teachers from 16 states and the Federal District to bring students to the movies and hold follow‑up discussions. Selections consider cinema availability, logistics and regional balance; participating teachers receive pedagogical support and can win a R$ 2,000 prize for submitted experience reports.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Circuito Cine Curtajá project will take award‑winning Brazilian films to public schools, offering sign‑language interpretation, descriptive subtitles and audio‑description for visually‑impaired learners. The season features titles such as Lé com Cré, O Véu de Amani, Guri and Dela, and includes the Instituto Benjamin Constant. Teachers receive age‑appropriate teaching kits to discuss themes of cultural diversity, indigenous heritage, racism and inclusion. Both initiatives aim to use cinema as a tool for cultural education and social inclusion across Brazil’s schools.
