Brazil expands free senior education programs in Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul

The State Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (Secti) in Goiás opened registrations on 27 August for 500 free places in the Cidadão Tech 60+ digital literacy course for people aged 60 and older. The program runs in 11 municipalities, teaching basic technology, digital security, artificial‑intelligence tools and health‑related apps such as WhatsApp, Gov.br, Meu SUS Digital and mobile banking, with applications due by 31 August.

The Open University for the Elderly (Unapi) at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) likewise began accepting applications on 27 August for 2,864 seats in its second‑semester offering. The slots cover 98 extension activities and 37 on‑site university courses across ten UFMS campuses, spanning health, sports, technology, arts, languages, citizenship and environmental studies, with classes starting between 3 and 20 August. Both initiatives aim to promote lifelong learning, digital inclusion and improved quality of life for Brazil’s senior citizens.
