Brazil expands Minha Casa, Minha Vida housing program

The Brazilian government announced major revisions to the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, raising income ceilings to R$13,000 and increasing the maximum value of eligible homes to R$600,000. The changes, implemented by Caixa Econômica Federal, aim to extend low‑interest financing to a broader segment of families across all income brackets and to accommodate higher property prices.

Caixa president Carlos Vieira highlighted that the latest program iteration has helped cut the national housing deficit, especially in the North and Northeast regions, where increased financing limits have spurred construction and contributed to regional GDP growth. The reforms are part of a broader effort by the Lula administration to strengthen Brazil's housing policy and support socio‑economic development.

The updated rules also adjust the four income tiers—R$3,200; R$5,000; R$9,600; and R$13,000—and raise the eligible property values for the higher tiers from R$350,000 to R$400,000 and from R$500,000 to R$600,000, respectively, allowing more families to qualify for mortgage loans with reduced interest rates.
