Brazil expands mobile access to new National Identity Card

Brazil's National Identity Card (CIN), which replaces the traditional RG, can now be requested online via the official portal or mobile app. The first free copy can be scheduled from home, with a later in‑person visit for biometric capture, signature and photo. The new card uses the CPF as a unique identifier, linking biometric databases and simplifying access to public services such as Bolsa Família. In Santa Catarina, residents can begin the process on their phones and receive the printed card by mail, while also accessing a digital version through the Gov.br app.

In Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, the issuance of the CIN has been temporarily halted because the state system managed by the Instituto Técnico‑Científico de Perícia is offline. The municipal chamber is awaiting system restoration before resuming scheduled appointments.
