Brazil expands PNLD digital platform and launches 2027 school book program
The National Book and Material Program (PNLD) in Brazil now offers a digital platform that lets teachers and students download free textbooks and literary works through a gov.br login. The catalogue contains 2,878 titles covering early‑grade, later‑grade and high‑school curricula, with accessibility tools for low vision, dyslexia and other needs.
For the 2027 cycle, PNLD will supply books for the early years of elementary school that integrate the expanded Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC). New components include Computing, Digital and Media Education, a single Text Production volume, optional foreign‑language study, and regional history and geography titles. The program aims to achieve universal literacy by the end of the second grade, positioning the textbook as the core instructional infrastructure for the national literacy commitment.
