Brazil expands Reforma Casa Brasil credit to boost home sales

The federal Reforma Casa Brasil programme has been relaunched with expanded terms aimed at revitalising the residential market. Credit lines of R$10,000 to R$50,000 are now offered at 0.99 % per month, payable over 36 to 72 months and without fees. The Ministry of Cities raised the eligible family income ceiling to R$13,000 and broadened the scope of eligible works, which include painting, roofing, electrical and hydraulic upgrades, doors, windows, flooring and even new rooms.

The credit, administered through Caixa Econômica Federal and accessible via a mobile app or bank correspondents, is intended not only for homeowners but also for sellers and real‑estate agents whose properties are stuck on the market due to poor condition. Mortgage specialist Murilo Arjona says a modest renovation can improve a property's visual appeal and unlock value, likening the effect to a “house‑flipping” strategy. By providing cheap, unsecured financing, the programme seeks to increase turnover in the sector and improve housing quality.
