Brazil expands renewable energy and fuel logistics infrastructure

Copersucar has released its Sustainability Report for the 25/26 harvest, highlighting significant advancements in renewable energy and decarbonization. The company reported record ethanol sales in Brazil and the United States, which prevented the emission of 30 million tons of CO2eq. A major milestone included the first transoceanic container ship refueling with ethanol at the Port of Santos in July 2026. Additionally, Copersucar expanded its use of biomethane in logistics, replacing 6 million liters of diesel, a 150% increase from the previous harvest.

In Paulínia, São Paulo, the joint venture Opla—a partnership between bp and Ultracargo—has completed an expansion of its fuel terminal. The facility's storage capacity has increased to approximately 202,000 cubic meters, including a new 20,000 m³ tank initially designated for anhydrous ethanol. The terminal leverages a multimodal logistics network involving road, rail, and pipeline. A railway connection allows for the transport of corn ethanol from Mato Grosso to the Southeast, while enabling the return flow of petroleum derivatives to support the agribusiness sector in the Midwest.
