Brazil energy and maritime logistics developments

Brazil is experiencing developments in its energy and maritime logistics sectors. In the renewable energy sector, Copersucar reported record ethanol sales in Brazil and the United States, noting that the first transoceanic container ship refueled with ethanol at the Port of Santos in July 2026. The company also increased its use of biomethane in logistics by 150% compared to the previous harvest.

Simultaneously, fuel infrastructure is expanding through the Opla joint venture in Paulínia, which increased its terminal storage capacity to approximately 202,000 cubic meters. This facility utilizes a multimodal network of road, rail, and pipeline to transport corn ethanol and petroleum derivatives.

In the mining and bulk commodity sectors, logistical adaptations are underway. In Pará, Artemyn Brasil is using the Port of Vila do Conde to maintain kaolin shipments to international markets following a previous accident at its private port. In Rio de Janeiro, Porto do Açu completed its first sulfur import from the United States to support domestic fertilizer production, a move influenced by global supply challenges related to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
