Brazil expands renewable energy and green certifications in Amazon and Alagoas

Communities on the Marajó island in Pará received the region’s first community solar system, replacing diesel generators and supplying clean electricity to about 300 riverside families. The project, a partnership between a local producers’ cooperative and a federal university, aims to reduce operating costs, cut CO₂ emissions and provide a model for rural electrification in the Amazon.

The Matriz and Marituba units of the Caeté sugar‑cane mill in Alagoas were awarded the State’s Green Seal Gold and Silver. The certification recognizes the mill’s continuous environmental management, waste handling, education programs and ESG‑aligned practices. As Yuri Santos, coordinator of the mill’s environmental management system, said, "More than a certification, this result demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility."
