Brazil expands sovereign fund program to cover agribusiness sectors
The Brazilian government discussed broadening the Programa Brasil Soberano II to include strategic agribusiness chains such as animal protein production, bio‑energy, fisheries and aquaculture. Ministers of Agriculture, Development, Industry, Commerce and Services presented the proposal, citing the sectors' role in jobs, exports, food and energy security and their need for financial support mechanisms.
Vice‑president Geraldo Alckmin reaffirmed the administration’s agenda of pairing agricultural growth with social inclusion, environmental preservation and international dialogue. In the same forum he highlighted record food‑export levels, the removal of millions from hunger, renewed automotive investments (e.g., BYD in Bahia, GWM in São Paulo, a new pole in Ceará) and the designation of the Pix payment system as a high‑renown trademark.
