Brazil Extends Driver’s License Validity Rules for Ages 50‑69, Boosting Women’s Automotive Education

The Brazilian Ministry of Transport announced that drivers aged 50 to 69 will receive a national driver’s licence valid for up to five years, linked to a physical and mental aptitude exam. The automatic renewal benefit may be used only once and requires active registration in the National Positive Driver Registry, no recent infractions, and a licence renewed within 30 days.

Data from the Brazilian Association of Traffic Medicine show that 5.6 million women aged 51‑70 hold licences, outpacing the 41‑50 age group. This growing cohort is prompting a surge in automotive‑education programmes aimed at mature women. Initiatives such as the “Dona Meu Destino” community, founded by Vittória Gabriele, now count over 890 000 women online and a waiting list of 3.5 000 for in‑person basic‑mechanics workshops.
