Fan dies of cardiac arrest during Brazil‑Japan World Cup match in Goiânia

A 60‑year‑old man suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while watching the Brazil vs Japan match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a bakery in the Setor Marista district of Goiânia, Brazil. The man collapsed after the Japanese goal, fell from his chair and hit his head, prompting witnesses to call the emergency service (Samu) at 192.

A Samu medical regulator, Nágylla de La Rocha, guided a bystander through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by video call, urging “Mais rápido. Mais rápido…”. The emergency team arrived about half an hour later and continued resuscitation efforts for roughly one hour. The victim’s heart restarted briefly four times, but he ultimately died at the scene. The official cause of death was identified as a cardiogenic shock caused by an acute myocardial infarction, compounded by cranial trauma.
