Federal Police target cryptocurrency pyramid schemes in Operation São Silvestre

The Brazilian Federal Police have launched Operation São Silvestre to dismantle criminal groups operating cryptocurrency-based financial pyramids. The investigation targets platforms that promised unrealistic monthly returns of up to 70% through fraudulent bitcoin operations and automated trading robots.

Authorities have secured a judicial freeze on assets totaling R$ 100 million belonging to 15 individuals and 13 companies. The operation involves the execution of 12 search and seizure warrants across ten cities in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Pernambuco.

The fraudulent schemes operated primarily between 2018 and 2020, impacting more than 10,000 victims both within Brazil and internationally. The investigation focuses on companies including F2 Trading and Wish Money. Those involved face charges including criminal association, fraud, money laundering, and crimes against the national financial system.
