Brazil Federal Revenue launches record R$16 bn tax‑refund batch and extra R$500 m pilot
On July 15, Brazil's Receita Federal will disburse an extra installment of income‑tax refunds, part of a pilot project that will pay up to R$500 million to about 4 million taxpayers who were entitled to a refund for the 2024 tax year but did not file a 2025 return. The payments are made automatically as a cashback to the taxpayer’s Pix key linked to their CPF, with a maximum of R$1 000 per person. Eligibility requires a refund claim, no CPF irregularities and a registered Pix key; about 13 % of potential recipients were excluded for lacking a Pix key.
Earlier, on July 30, the agency completed the largest single refund batch in its history, crediting roughly 9.5 million people a total of R$16 billion for the 2026 income‑tax cycle and residual amounts from previous years. The batch includes priority groups such as seniors, teachers and persons with disabilities, and all payments are routed to the beneficiaries’ Pix‑linked accounts. The two batches together represent a significant step in the agency’s automation and modernization of tax‑refund processing.
