Brazil Federal Revenue releases second income‑tax refund batch and flags 2.2 million returns in audit

The Brazilian Federal Revenue (Receita Federal) will make the second installment of the 2026 income‑tax refunds on 30 June, covering roughly nine million taxpayers. This batch follows the first payment on 29 May and, together with the upcoming July and August installments, is expected to cover about 80 % of all refunds scheduled for the year. Over 44 million tax returns were filed within the legal deadline, a slight increase over the previous year.

Separately, the agency has identified inconsistencies in about 2.2 million returns that were placed in the “malha fina” audit queue after the filing deadline. Taxpayers can resolve most issues themselves through the virtual assistance center (e‑CAC) by checking the flagged items and correcting errors such as omitted income, medical expenses, or dependent information before any official notice. Prompt action can avoid fines, delays in refunds, and potential future complications with the tax authority.
