Brazil forest management initiatives advance through technical updates and industry assemblies

Technical committees and industry representatives in Brazil are advancing initiatives to improve forest management and legislative monitoring.

Researchers from the Observatório do Código Florestal (OCF) met in Piracicaba to discuss updates to the Forest Code Thermometer (TCF). Established in 2017, the TCF is a civil society initiative that tracks the implementation of Brazil’s forest legislation through data analysis and transparency. The committee aims to integrate methodologies and databases to better support public policy and environmental governance, with the next data release scheduled for May 2027.

In Belém, the FSC Brasil General Assembly brought together environmental, social, and economic chambers to evaluate responsible forest management. Organizations such as Apremavi participated in the assembly to discuss challenges and coordinate actions with FSC International. The meeting emphasized the importance of local realities, particularly within the Amazon biome, in shaping forest management decisions and commitments.
