Voos Rio Panorâmico assets frozen following fatal helicopter crash

A Federal Court in Rio de Janeiro has ordered the freezing of assets belonging to Voos Rio Panorâmico e Serviços Aeronáuticos, up to a limit of R$ 10 million. The decision, issued by the 26th Federal Court, follows a helicopter crash on August 8 in the Vista Chinesa region of the Tijuca Forest, which killed four people: pilot Alessandro Rocha and three Colombian tourists from the same family.

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) requested the freeze to ensure potential compensation for collective environmental damages. The crash caused an explosion and a forest fire in the Atlantic Forest, impacting local fauna and flora. The court has also ordered the company and its managing partner to submit a Degraded Area Recovery Plan (PRAD) within 30 days to facilitate ecological restoration.

Investigations by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) identified serious failures in the company’s operational safety management, crew fatigue control, and maintenance records. Consequently, Anac has suspended the company’s Air Operator Certificate and grounded six other aircraft in its fleet.
