Brazil funds multi‑million‑real erosion control projects in Maranhão and Rio de Janeiro

Deputy Hildo Rocha (MDB) secured a R$ 59 million service order to contain three large gully erosions threatening homes in Açailândia, Maranhão. The project, approved by the federal government and coordinated with the state and municipal authorities, aims to protect hundreds of families.

In Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, civil‑defense teams continued the Planned Retraction program, demolishing high‑risk houses along the Fronteira coastal neighborhood. More than 210 families have been relocated with assisted‑purchase or emergency‑rental aid, based on technical studies from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The operation involves the city’s civil‑defense, infrastructure, public services and housing departments.

Both initiatives represent coordinated government actions to mitigate erosion‑related hazards and safeguard vulnerable residents in Brazil.
