Brazil government reduces hydroelectric output to conserve water amid El Niño

The Brazilian government decided to lower the water releases from hydroelectric reservoirs to preserve water levels in anticipation of a potentially stronger El Niño event in the second half of the year. The measure, approved by the Committee of Monitoring of the Electric Sector (CMSE) and coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, aims to ensure future hydraulic security of the power system.

The plan also includes a monitoring room for fuel supply to generation systems in the North region, with the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) overseeing fuel stock levels, logistics and contingency plans to maintain electricity supply in isolated northern grids.
