Brazil government to impose new betting restrictions, including five‑second interval

The Brazilian government under President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva plans to issue a new regulation for online betting platforms through the Secretariat of Prize and Betting (SPA) linked to the Ministry of Finance. The pending ordinance, expected within days, will require a minimum five‑second pause between consecutive bets, ban automatic "autoplay" betting modes, and prohibit the use of timers or countdowns that pressure users to decide quickly.

The rules also forbid festive sound effects such as coin‑clinking, pre‑filled betting amounts, and rankings of top winners. They aim to block promotional pop‑ups that encourage users to keep funds on the platform and to remove any obstacles to withdrawing deposited money. The measures build on stricter advertising limits introduced in July during the World Cup and are intended to curb impulsive gambling and reduce the risk of betting addiction.
