Brazil grants tax breaks for classic cars and senior car buyers
A new federal rule set to take effect in 2026 will automatically exempt vehicles that are 20 years old or more from the IPVA road tax. Cars built up to 2006 will no longer require payment, relieving owners of older automobiles and encouraging the classic‑car market without any application process.
Separately, a draft law under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies would allow people aged 60 and above to purchase new cars – and potentially motorcycles – with a full exemption from the IPI manufacturing tax. The proposal could cut purchase prices by up to 30%, limited to one use per senior every five years. The measure is still pending approval.
