Brazil municipalities launch animal health and welfare campaigns

Municipalities across Brazil are implementing various public health and animal welfare initiatives focused on rabies prevention, population control, and pet adoption.

Rabies vaccination campaigns are active in several cities, including Natal, Cuiabá, Rio Branco, Crato, and Campo Grande. These efforts utilize both fixed vaccination posts and door-to-door services to reach pet owners. In Rio Branco, these actions aim to maintain the country's decade-long success in preventing human rabies transmission from canine variants.

Population control through sterilization is also a priority. Paranaguá has launched the ‘CastraPet’ program, while Bauru is opening 500 free sterilization slots through the ‘Amigo Caramelo’ program. In Congonhas, local authorities are debating expanded veterinary services and the implementation of an ‘SOS Animal’ ambulance service.

Additionally, adoption drives are being organized, such as the event in Sorocaba at Ceagesp, to find homes for animals from municipal shelters. In Imperatriz, the ‘Zoonoses no Bairro’ project is bringing veterinary exams, deworming, and leishmaniasis testing directly to local communities.
