Brazil: Health Minister receives proposals for rural health equity
In Brasília, Brazil, Health Minister Alexandre Padilha received the ‘Carta de Brasília’ from the Grupo da Terra. The document contains proposals to strengthen the National Integral Health Policy for Populations of the Countryside, Forest, and Waters (PNSIPCFA). The group, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Health and various social movements, aims to improve access to the Unified Health System (SUS) by addressing the specific social, environmental, and economic realities of these territories.
Separately, in São Luís, Maranhão, a mobilization at the Nina Rodrigues Hospital focused on providing essential documentation to psychiatric patients. Coordinated by the PopRuaJud committee of the Maranhão Court of Justice, the initiative facilitated the issuance of birth and marriage certificates. This documentation is a critical step for vulnerable patients to access the National Identity Card and apply for social benefits, such as the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) through the INSS.
