Brazil hosts cinema week and documentary showcase emphasizing inclusion and women

The municipality of Marituba in Pará staged its first Cinema Week from June 8‑12 at the public Cine Umari, offering free daily screenings that highlighted themes such as inclusion, resistance, fantasy, art, female protagonism and romance. The program featured a special “Tela Feminina” session on June 11 and a Valentine’s‑day film showing, aiming to broaden cultural access for residents, including people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, São Luís in Maranhão hosted the second edition of the MIRA Documentary Film Show from June 17‑20. Under the theme “All waters flow to the sea,” the event honored veteran black filmmaker Antônia Ágape and focused on women’s contributions to Brazilian documentary cinema. It combined film screenings, discussions, workshops and a children’s program, seeking to promote memory, identity and the visibility of Black women filmmakers across the country.
