Brazil 2026 cultural festivals, exhibitions & civic actions

Entities: Rio das Ostras · Leo Jaime · Paula Fernandes · Lavínia Rodrigues · Noah Muhr

Overview

Brazil’s 2026 cultural programme continues to unfold across festivals, exhibitions and civic initiatives. The second Festival Gastronômico de Rio das Ostras (30 July–2 August) showcased more than fifteen local restaurants offering dishes such as Chimichanga El Dorado, Croquete Pulled Pork, sanduba de pastrami and seafood paella, alongside free nightly concerts that featured Léo Jaime and Paula Fernandes. Organisers highlighted the event’s role in boosting tourism and supporting local entrepreneurs.

The Max Fashion Tour expanded its talent‑scouting reach with free selection events in Ponta Grossa (25‑26 July) and a public runway “Max Fashion Day” in Brasília (23 July). In late July, the tour added a two‑day scouting event in Cuiabá (1‑2 August), opening participation to people aged 0‑60 and offering pathways into fashion, advertising, television and digital content.

In Brasília, the Museu Nacional da República will host the exhibition “Utopias em Construção: Brasília nas dobras do tempo” (August–October). Curated by Marcus Lontra, Marília Panitz and Rafael Peixoto, it presents historic sketches by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer, panels by Athos Bulcão and photographs, alongside contemporary works by Christus Nóbrega and the Coletivo Transverso. Institutional support comes from the Fundação Athos Bulcão, the Oscar Niemeyer Office and Portugal’s Casa da Arquitetura.

The accompanying film “Pequenas Criaturas,” directed by Anne Pinheiro Guimarães, is set in mid‑1980s Brasília and follows a family navigating personal crises against the city’s stark modernist backdrop, exploring themes of infidelity, isolation and teenage bullying.

These activities reinforce Brazil’s focus on cultural diversity, regional tourism, and the preservation and reinterpretation of its modernist heritage.
