Brazil hosts LGBT+ Pride Parade in Rio das Pedras and political gathering in São Paulo

In Brazil, two distinct social and political events are highlighting diversity and representation. In Rio das Pedras, one of the country's largest favelas, the first LGBT+ Pride Parade is being held under the theme “In the streets and in politics: giving the right look and more rights.” Organized by community members including Presidenta Poderosa and Cássia Moura, the event aims to celebrate diversity while advocating for public policies and the creation of an LGBT+ Citizenship House to support local residents.

In São Paulo, the “Primavera das Pretas” event is taking place at Ocupação 9 de Julho. This gathering brings together anti-racist activists and political candidates, including former Environment Minister Marina Silva and candidate Ruth Lopes. The meeting serves to mobilize supporters for feminist and anti-racist causes ahead of the upcoming elections, addressing the historical underrepresentation of Black women in Brazil's decision-making institutions.
