LGBTQIA+ rights and tourism developments in Brazil

Brazil is implementing various legislative, judicial, and economic initiatives aimed at supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.

On the legal and healthcare fronts, Bill 3337/26 has been introduced in the Chamber of Deputies to establish a national protocol for the Unified Health System (SUS). This protocol seeks to standardize care by ensuring respect for gender identity and sexual orientation, while guaranteeing access to hormone therapy and psychological support. Additionally, in Rio Grande do Norte, new regulations have been established to facilitate free civil registration and the rectification of name and gender for transgender and non-binary individuals.

In the economic and tourism sectors, the 10th International Diversity Conference in São Paulo has highlighted inclusive business and the launch of the ‘Brasil LGBT 2026’ research study. Conducted by the LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of Brazil in partnership with IEMI, this study analyzes the consumption and travel habits of the LGBTQIA+ population. Embratur is supporting these efforts through the ‘Brasil Destinos de Orgulho’ initiative, while the III Love Iguassu Festival in Foz do Iguaçu aims to strengthen tourism in the Triple Frontier region.

Social and political mobilization has also expanded. In the Rio das Pedras favela, the first LGBT+ Pride Parade was held under the theme ‘In the streets and in politics: giving the right look and more rights,’ advocating for public policies and an LGBT+ Citizenship House. Meanwhile, in São Paulo, the ‘Primavera das Pretas’ event at Ocupação 9 de Julho has mobilized anti-racist and feminist activists, including political candidates, to address the underrepresentation of Black women in decision-making institutions.
