Festival do Rio 2026 announces major international film lineup

The 28th Festival do Rio, scheduled for October 1–11, 2026, has announced a major lineup featuring works from renowned international filmmakers including Mike Leigh, Werner Herzog, Bassam Tariq, Yeon Sang-ho, Eleanor, and Sofia Coppola. The selection includes films previously showcased at major global festivals like Cannes and Venice, such as Mike Leigh’s ‘Tender Loving Care’ and Werner Herzog’s ‘O Vale Imaginário’. The festival will feature 359 titles, including 110 new Brazilian films in the Première Brasil showcase.

In other regional developments, the Rio Municipal Hospital Ronaldo Gazolla has achieved the Qmentum Platinum international accreditation, making it the first public hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro to receive this recognition for quality and safety standards.

Cultural and tourism activities in Rio de Janeiro continue to expand, with Rio das Ostras announcing its participation in the ABAV Expo 2026 to promote its coastal and rural attractions. Additionally, the Rio Gastronomia 2026 festival reported approximately 90,000 visitors, while the Glória neighborhood has emerged as a new cultural hub for dining and arts.
