Brazil conducts nationwide Agosto Lilás campaign to combat violence against women
Various Brazilian municipalities and judicial bodies are conducting activities as part of the ‘Agosto Lilás’ campaign, a national initiative aimed at raising awareness and combating violence against women.
In several regions, including Lages, Tangará da Serra, and Juína, seminars, workshops, and community discussions have been held to strengthen protection networks and provide information on legal rights. In Natal, the inauguration of the Cora Coralina Space aims to promote economic autonomy through professional training in the beauty sector. In Cuiabá, the Sesp inaugurated the ‘Cabine Lilás’, a specialized 24-hour emergency telephone service designed to provide humanized support for women reporting violence.
Judicial authorities are also engaging in training for journalists to ensure responsible media coverage of feminicide, aiming to prevent the ‘copycat effect’ and avoid the romanticization of violence. Other local initiatives include the ‘Ônibus Lilás’ in Campos Novos, which brings citizenship and health services directly to communities, and the celebration of the first anniversary of the Women's Secretariat in Parobé, which provides legal and psychological support.
