Brazil implements measures to protect electoral integrity and combat disinformation
Various measures and guidelines are being implemented to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process in Brazil. The Instituto Ethos has advised companies to protect employees from electoral harassment and political pressure, emphasizing that organizations should prevent coercion or the use of power to influence voting choices.
To combat disinformation, the Procuradoria-Geral da República (PGR) has proposed to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that access to Electoral Justice digital services be treated as an emergency service. This would ensure free data access for official sites, such as e-Título and fact-checking pages, during the critical windows surrounding election rounds.
Technological and legal safeguards are also being utilized. In Santos, the e-Not Provas tool has recorded nearly one thousand authentications of digital candidate promises to ensure transparency and prevent the deletion of political commitments. Additionally, officials from the Paraíba Regional Electoral Court (TRE-PB) have highlighted the security of electronic voting machines, noting they utilize over 30 layers of security and are designed to maintain vote secrecy even when isolated from networks.
