Brazil implements major road upgrades in Curitiba and São Paulo

A traffic detour will be in effect on the Contorno Sul of Curitiba (BR‑376) starting Monday, 20 July 2026. Via Araucária will redirect vehicles between km 596+700 and 597+400 for about 60 days while widening and reconstructing the pavement, adding LED signage, pedestrian paths and a new bridge over the Rio Barigui. The first phase of the broader Contorno Sul modernization project, which includes dual‑lane margins, cycle lanes and additional overpasses, is slated for completion in 2027 with full works finished by 2029.

Meanwhile, concessionaire Via Colinas (Grupo Via Appia) has announced a resurfacing program for the SP‑075, Castello Branco (SP‑280) and Contorno de Itu (SPI‑102/300) highways. Work began 19 July 2026 and runs through late July, with daytime interventions on several kilometer sections and night‑time operations on SP‑075 in Salto. Activities involve milling, reconstruction, repainting and installation of reflective markers, employing up to 560 personnel and impacting only one traffic lane at a time to minimise disruption. Drivers are urged to follow temporary signage and reduce speed in the construction zones.
