Brazil implements new CNH renewal rules for drivers
New Brazilian regulations have introduced changes to the National Driver's License (CNH) renewal process, targeting different age groups with varying requirements.
Drivers aged 50 to 69 who maintain a clean driving record can now benefit from a one-time automatic and free renewal. To qualify, drivers must be enrolled in the National Positive Registry of Drivers (RNPC), have no traffic infractions resulting in points within the previous 12 months, have no medical restrictions affecting license validity, and ensure the license has not been expired for more than 30 days. This benefit applies only to the first expiration that meets these criteria.
In contrast, drivers aged 70 and older face more frequent evaluations. For this group, the physical and mental aptitude exams must be renewed every three years to ensure continued driving safety. Drivers under 50 may have a license validity of up to ten years, while the 50-69 age group follows a five-year cycle.
