Brazil implements new digital economy and child protection laws
Brazil is implementing new legislative frameworks to regulate the digital landscape. Law No. 15.325/2026 recognizes the Creator Economy, a sector involving content creators, digital platforms, and brands. This movement follows market projections suggesting the industry could reach US$ 310.4 billion by 2026. In response, Cásper Líbero has launched a short-term course on brand, influence, and communities, taught by Patrícia Ribeiro, founder of the Brazilian Association of the Creator Economy.
Simultaneously, Law No. 15.211/2025, known as the ‘ECA Digital’ or ‘Adultization Law’, has been in effect since March 2026. This legislation updates the Statute of the Child and Adolescent to establish specific rules for digital platforms, social networks, and games accessed by minors. Key measures include age verification mechanisms, parental supervision tools, data protection rules, and prevention strategies against child sexual abuse and exploitation online. Advocates note that the law aligns with international standards while addressing local realities without relying solely on linear age-based bans.
