Brazil implements new National Identity Card using CPF
Brazil is transitioning to the National Identity Card (CIN), a new identification document that uses the CPF number as a unique identifier across the country. This new system replaces the old RG model to prevent individuals from having different registration numbers in different states.
The old RG remains valid nationwide until February 28, 2032, after which the CIN will become mandatory. In Pará, the document can be issued through appointments scheduled via the Civil Police website. In Espírito Santo, a special event in Vitória is offering free issuance of the CIN without prior appointment for those with necessary documentation, such as birth or marriage certificates and CPF.
Adults who have never held an identity document can also apply for their first CIN through state identification agencies. While the core requirement is a birth or marriage certificate, specific procedures and required documents may vary by state.
