Brazil implements new National Identity Card (CIN) using CPF

Brazil is implementing the new Carteira de Identidade Nacional (CIN), a unified identity document that uses the CPF number as the sole identifier. The first issuance of the document is free of charge and is valid throughout the national territory. The CIN can also serve as a travel document for entry into Mercosul member countries, such as Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, under current agreements.

To obtain the document, citizens must schedule an appointment through official portals like Poupatempo or via specific service units. Required documentation includes an original document containing the CPF number and a birth or marriage certificate. Once processed, the physical card can be collected within 22 business days or sent via mail. A digital version is also available through the Gov.br application shortly after printing.

In Bahia, the SAC service is conducting special initiatives, such as the 'Projeto Cidadão 60+', which provides exclusive morning service for elderly citizens (aged 60 and over) to issue the new ID. The CIN also allows for the inclusion of additional health information, such as blood type, RH factor, organ donation status, and records related to disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
