FenSeg warns election campaign vehicle use may void insurance

The National Federation of General Insurance (FenSeg) has issued an alert regarding the 2026 elections, warning that using vehicles for campaign activities or applying electoral stickers may jeopardize auto insurance coverage. According to Keila Farias, vice-president of the Auto Insurance Commission, these actions can be classified as an increase in risk due to higher exposure to accidents, vandalism, and public crowds.

Insurance companies argue that using vehicles to transport campaign materials or staff alters the risk profile established at the time of the contract. Failure to update the policy can lead to the refusal of compensation for theft, robbery, or collisions. Additionally, standard policies typically do not cover damages to stickers, wraps, or decals, nor do they cover losses resulting from riots or civil unrest.

To maintain coverage, FenSeg recommends that drivers notify their insurers before applying any visual propaganda, request a formal policy endorsement to record changes in vehicle use, and consult with brokers before providing services to candidates. Drivers should also verify if vehicle wraps require updated registration with Detran.

Separately, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has established rules for the start of official propaganda on August 16, 2026, which includes regulations on the use of artificial intelligence and restrictions on where and how campaign materials can be distributed.
