Brazil initiatives provide free wigs to oncology patients

Health initiatives in Brazil are providing free wigs to patients experiencing hair loss due to medical treatments, such as chemotherapy.

In the Distrito Federal, the Rede Feminina maintains a collection of approximately 300 pieces, replenished every two months. The service, located at the Hospital de Base do Distrito Federal, offers wigs, breast prostheses, hair cutting, and the distribution of scarves. To receive a wig, patients must present a photo ID and a medical report issued within the last six months. The project relies on volunteers who craft the pieces using donated natural hair.

In Americana, Unacon, in partnership with the NGO Cabelegria, is organizing a mobile wig bank event. This initiative aims to support the self-esteem and quality of life of oncology patients in the region. Participants can pre-register to choose a wig model and receive guidance on maintenance. The program also serves as a collection point for hair donations to support the production of new pieces.
