Brazil intensifies measles vaccination after cases in São Paulo and Guarulhos

Health authorities in the São Paulo state have confirmed a resurgence of measles. Guarulhos reported its first case of the year and launched an active search and vaccination drive, targeting vulnerable residents and updating immunization records at local health units.

In the city of São Paulo, five cases were recorded in June 2026, prompting the municipal epidemiology center to warn of heightened viral circulation across the Americas, especially with the upcoming 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Health officials emphasized the importance of the triple‑viral vaccine (MMR) for children and adults, outlining the age‑specific dosing schedule and urging those without documented immunity to be vaccinated.

Both municipalities are urging residents to seek vaccination at basic health units, isolate if symptomatic, and follow respiratory hygiene measures to curb further spread.
